My phone keeps going off since I put out that advert earlier in the month. There is nothing more exciting than answering my mobile and hearing the name of an Olympian on the other end who’s interested in my project!
Olympian Wanted for South Pole Expedition
Following our recent return to square one with recruiting Olympians, I’ve run an advert which I hope is quirky enough to catch a few people’s eyes. Here’s a copy:
Capsize
The Decathlete wasn’t going to work out. We’d spoken several times but not found a time to meet. It didn’t bode well for two years of working on such a big project if he was struggling to find time for a meeting. We spoke and he agreed – it would be great to be involved but wrong time, wrong place.
Special Olympics Selection Day
I don’t like the title “Selection Day” but it was the easiest one for it.
We had our five athletes coming along to hear about the project yesterday. Rosie gave them a flavour of what it’s like in Antarctica and then we got them pitching tents, tying knots and simulating crevasse rescue in a sports hall wearing blind folds!
Meeting the applicants
We had a second selection event for the Special Olympics Athletes last weekend. We invited three of them over to the Peak District for a day of walking and a night in a tent. [Read more...]
