We had a second selection event for the Special Olympics Athletes last weekend. We invited three of them over to the Peak District for a day of walking and a night in a tent.
Beautiful weather greeted us and we had a glorious walk in the Hope Valley near Stanage Edge. As ever, the decision making process is impossible but it’s just down to us to deliberate now.
Meanwhile, I’ve been catching up with the Olympians still interested. A couple of them never followed up on initial contact and I wasn’t going to chase them so self-selection narrowed it down to three: a rower, a swimmer and a runner.
I caught up with the runner (so to speak) a within a few hours of calling to arrange a meeting (which bodes well for enthusiasm and availability!) and had a drink with the swimmer last night. The rower’s stuck under the ash cloud and we’ve only managed to get as far as a telephone call.
Lots of thinking to do but we are closing in on our team.
